The saga of the broken foot

Some time in the past, I am going to start my stories like this now because I am so terrible at keeping track of time, Izzy jumped off of Gwiny's day bed. It was about 8 p.m. I know this because I had just put them in bed and was waiting the alotted 15 minutes of quiet time before giving them a drink and turning off the lights. I heard Izzy start to scream, but they scream at each other a lot, so I walked in there not particularly in any hurry to find Izzy crumpled over holding her foot. I pick her up and call RJ in and we look at Izzy's foot that is already starting to swell. She has stopped crying and we lay her in the toddler bed with her foot on a pillow and a bunch of ice. We give her tylenol and let her watch a movie on the portable DVD player until she falls asleep. At 4 am she tries to walk into the living room and starts screaming. I carry her to the living room and she immediately goes back to sleep.
8 am. Izzy awakens and says her foot still hurts. I call the doctor. Then we carry Izzy into the bathroom and keep her off her foot. The doctor orders X-Rays. Izzy and I go to lunch at McDonalds while we wait for the results of her xrays to be sent to our doctor. And the guy at the table overhears this conversation shortly after my phone call. " Hey Izzy, you need to stop sitting like that." " Why?" " Because you are sitting on your foot and the doctor says it is broken." " My foot is broken? Oh man." So we rush out to Cynthia's house ( Thank you for your patience that day Cynthia, while I was acting like
a crazy person and Izzy is complaining that she wanted to go home. And thank you for the tylenol because we never would have made it through the day without you.) to print off the insurance card that was snaked out of my wallet by my thieving youngest daughter. We get to our destination, take more Xrays of her feet to make sure it didn't disturb any growth plates and I hear this:

Your daughter has a seriously broken foot. I mean really broken. She has a buckle fracture on her 2nd metatarsal. A complete fracture on her 3rd metatarsal. And a unicordial break on her 4th metatarsal. That means her 2nd has bent out sideways, her 3rd has snapped in two, and her 4th is bent one way and broken on the other side

. I am amazed she could touch it to show me where it hurt let alone grabbing it.

Mama, I wanna go home.

I am sure you want to go home, says the guy giving her a cast. We see grown men crying about a break like this. We hope you like your purple cast.

We go home and end day 2 of broken Izzy. Gwiny and Emma take extra good care of her.
By the end of day 5 of broken Izzy, she has learned how to run, jump, skip, dance, and spin using her cast. But she still wants it off.

By the end of day 6 she knows it isn't coming off for a while because of the paper chain we make to show how many days until her doctors appointment. She hasn't asked about it again.

But now she hates bath time because she can't play in the bath and we have to work as a team to keep her foot out of the water.

She came home with 10 cards from her preschool class. 6 were from Ava and have the greatest pre-school depiction of broken Izzy. I love this picture so much.

Because it has just taken me this long to get this blog post up. Izzy is now out of her cast. I really need to get better at this being on time with my blogs.

2011 Holidays

We had a wonderful holiday season this year. While I tend to forget most things, here are some fun family facts from the 2011 holidays.

- We attended the Linker's 2nd Annual Christmas Party and, as always, had a blast. I did almost get a smack from Cynthia when I tried to smell her. Kara stole my gift in the gift game, even though I am pretty sure last year she said she doesn't usually do that. Either that gift was really good or she isn't afraid of me like everyone else is. ha ha!

- We woke up Christmas morning in our own home this year. That was priceless.

- I had to sleep on the couch Christmas Eve/Christmas morning because the girls woke up about 15 minutes after Santa came and I had to keep them out of their stockings all night.

- We spent 6 days between my parents and In-laws and had a blast!

- Mom and Dad watched the girls New Years Eve. I drank a pink cosmo with cotton candy in it and celebrated New Years at 12:00 est. even though we were on central, so we got back before the throngs of drunkards hit the streets.

- I saw a girl at TGIFridays who thought she saw Justin Bieber. She had serious Bieber fever, screaming, jumping up and down, ect. Until her brother pointed out that it was just an old guy at the bar.

- We had to tell Cory goodbye again and the girls only cried once.

- And our Big News ...... Gwiny learned how to ride a bike with no training wheels!!

So here's to you 2012: In hopes that you treat us just as well, if not better, than 2011!

And as a side note, I looked up the stats on who is looking at my blog and I have had 4 people that ended up here because they searched " She got a spanking." or something spanking related. They are mostly from Russia. So I could call myself an international blogging sensation. But they probably all ran away when they realized it wasn't sexy spankings. Oh no, see what just happened there? I wonder how many hits I will get from that phrase? Well, thats that then.

Lets see what stories my camera tells.

I don't have anything in particular to blog about. But I do have time, seeing as my two oldest are on a sleep free kick. Last night they didn't go to sleep until after midnight and woke up at 7. It is currently 10 p.m. and seeing as Izzy took a 3 hour nap at the table when I told her she couldn't get up until she ate her dinner, I am not expecting this night to be any earlier. So I now present to you, Random Stories From The Camera!

How cute is this? This is from Stone Soup Day at Izzy and Ava's pre-school. They were both dressed as pilgrims on their way to eat Stone Soup. The director said they tell the story as Indians and Pilgrims instead of a wandering pig and the unfriendly farm animals. But thats beside the point. This picture could have only been cuter if one of them had been a native and the other a pilgrim.

The other night we got to watch the older Linker children. This picture was in between cake making and our epic jellyfish making fail. I'm not really sure what they are doing, and I feel bad that the only boy somehow ended up in the girliest of our costumes. Its apparent Emma thinks he is pretty great and it makes me so happy that she has a friend.

This is a persimmon tree at my in-laws house. We pulled up and saw that there was only one fruit on the tree and it was so weird I had to take a picture. Who knew the picture would be full of symbolism. A single fruit. A dying tree. A ladder with no one to climb it. Yep. I went real deep on that one.

This is a picture of Warwick Davis from the Harry Potter Celebration event I went to in Orlando. I know I shouldn't be telling what I got people for Christmas, but RJ never reads my blogs, so here it is. I got RJ an autographed copy of Size Matters Not the autobiography of Warwick Davis. I am so excited to see his reaction when he opens it. I am a notoriously bad gift giver and this year, I think I may have redeemed myself.

The santa questions

This time of year is a particular favorite of both RJ and myself. I love that there are a lot of craft activities readily available and very cheep that I can use to entertain myself and my daughters, RJ loves buying us secret gifts when he is supposed to be at work, we love getting extra gifts, I give up on my extra strict budget for a month. And we enjoy spending a little extra time together and with family.
This time of year brings about a slew of santa questions. " Is santa real?", " How can Santa get all of the presents made if he is at the mall?" " How can santa get to everyone in the world?" And here are my answers. " He is real as long as you believe in him, thats why so many grown ups don't get presents." " Santa doesn't come to the mall. Those are just guys santa hires to dress like him and then tell him what all the little boys and girls want" and " Imagine the world is a beach ball. Santa starts at the first time zone and works his way back. That way he gets extra time. So its really like he has 2 days, and sense not all kids believe in santa he doesn't have to go to everyone's house."
Now that we have that under control, we just have to kick this cough that keeps circulating throughout the family.

Procrastination Station

Turns out, I only blog when I am procrastinating. Who knew? I guess anyone that has read more than one entry into my blog.

Today's topic is much more on point with the title of my blog than most of my last blogs have been. Today we are talking about girls and clothes. I never knew that this would be a subject at 7,4, and 1 but apparently, what to wear is a HUGE issue with 2 out of 3 of my daughters. Gwiny is putting up the best fight as she is now 7 and is in to fashion ( ha ha, that is sarcasm).

Gwindolyn is the most like her mother of my girls. She doesn't give a flip about what other people say or do. She cries when she gets a bad grade on a test, she wants to help others, and she thinks she runs the place. She has been a fairly easy going child all of her life. But these days I find myself wanting to pull my hair out from about 8:15 to 8:40 every morning. Gwin only wants to wear very, very tight clothes. She has attempted to wear Emma's ( 2T) clothes more times than I can count. She thinks that she can wear leggings without a skirt on top. Now that she is in second grade, I have to put a stop to this. So she cries, and I dress her in Jeans and a loose fitting top every day. And still she fights. This has been on going for about 2 months. You would think she would get the hint already. But I will keep fighting.

Izzy, she doesn't care what she wears. For her, the weirder the better really, so no problem there.

Emma, has now started to pick up a desire to pick out her own clothes. She basically spends 10 minutes in her drawer throws all her clothes out and then says. "I'm nakie." So i pick something and she says no, and runs away. Then I grab her, throw her clothes on and we are good to go.

Girls, gotta love them.

October Update

Yesterday, I said " For some reason we have been so busy lately." RJ responded, " That's just what you do." Its true. I thought I would be far less busy after I cut my driving in half. Sadly, no. I picked up on a couple projects to do here. I am currently...

1) Sewing Gwiny a pink Jasmine costume.

2) Sewing Izzy a Rapunzel costume.

3) Decorating a pink bra for the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer walk.

4) Making a pumpkin BINGO game for a Halloween dinner event on Thursday.

5) Trying some new candy recipes for a care package I need to send. ( Today's project of easy fondant was a fail. Turns out, local honey is not the same as Walmart brand honey)

6) Creating treat bags for a halloween party at Gwin's school.

So thats what I need to have done by Tuesday. Yet, this is the time I do a blog? I guess I better get back to some of those things I need to be doing.
